A Short Summary Of My Academic Experiences
I attended the University of California, San Diego 2008-2012 and obtained a bachelor's degree in Socio-Cultural Anthropology with a minor in Art History and Criticism. During my undergraduate years I explored the various categories of Anthropology, giving me a greater appreciation for the field and its application to my future endeavors. Fall of 2009 to summer of 2012, I participated in Southwest Youth and the Evaluation of Psychiatric Treatment (SWYEPT) with Dr. Thomas Csordas and Dr. Janis Jenkins. In this project, I served as a research assistant to transcribe ethnographic interviews, create graphs/tables, code using NVivo software, run statistical analyses, and lead a group of undergraduate volunteers. In addition, I presented my own project "Adolescent Sexuality: Cultural Impact on Conceptualization of Sexual Relations" at the UCSD Summer Research Symposium 2010. In summer of 2011, I participated in an archaeology study abroad program in which we visited Mayan sites in Honduras, Guatemela, Belize, and Mexico. Lastly, winter to spring quarter of 2012 I participated in Artsbridge with Education Studies Department at UCSD. Artsbridge is a program that aims to integrate the arts into elementary school curriculum. During my participation I created and implemented fusion lesson plans such my Origami Windmill lesson to teach students about resusable energy and the process of utilizing wind energy. Currently I am working towards receiving my Master of Education, Multiple Subject Credential, and Elementary Math Emphasis Certificate at the University of California, San Diego.
My education in the field of Anthropology and my arts experiences have shaped me into an open minded, inquisitive, culturally sensitive, and compassionate person. I think my anthropological perspective and passion for the arts will translate well into the field of education. I am excited to begin my new journey!!
